It was always fun to be around those guys. They were fans of ours from the beginning, and we would always see them out on the road or whenever we would go through Dallas they would come out and ply us with alcohol. We’d known the Pantera guys since a really early time in our career. You guys were able to use a guitar part from the late, great Dimebag Darrell on “Side Of A Bullet”. And we most definitely left some of our sanity behind on All The Right Reasons. It seems that if you don’t leave a little bit of your sanity behind when you make an album, you haven’t dug deep enough. It was intense and it was a lot of work, but we came out of it with a great album. Creativity is like that, y’know? Sometimes it flows freely, and sometimes you’ve gotta kind of fight for it a little bit – and fight with it a little bit. It was productive, but there were definitely some hard times. What was that writing process like? Were the ideas just pouring out of you? Such a big failure, right!?Īnd then we came out with All The Right Reasons, and that gave us an even bigger resurgence – it turned out to be our biggest record to date!Ī good handful of the most iconic Nickelback songs are on this record. And this is some top-shelf stuff. And y’know, it was funny because after the success that we had with Silver Side Up, with the song “How You Remind Me” and all that, everybody was saying, “Okay guys, it’s pretty normal now that your career is going to wind down.” And then we did another record, The Long Road, and that was largely considered to be a failure because it only sold five million copies. We make up the best alternate lines to our own songs. ‘If you think the Internet’s rough, you should sit in a van with us. And no one-no one, and I know this is hard to believe-can make as much fun of us as we make fun of ourselves.
There doesn’t seem to be one particular moment that turned Nickelback into a hate figure – their signing to an extreme heavy metal label and the lyrics to Rockstar carry equal weight – but over the years, hating the band has turned into an enduring internet meme.īut hasn’t hurt Nickelback’s success in the slightest – they have had five US number one albums, nominated for six Grammys, How You Remind Me was the most played song on US radio in the 2000s, and they were the second best-selling foreign act in the US of the 2000s (after The Beatles).Īnd Nickelback have leaned into the perception of their band, often sharing memes themselves.Ĭhad told Blabbermouth in 2014: ‘We are one of those bands that a lot of people think take themselves seriously. So there is some suggestion that aside from an album or a single, the band could be planning a virtual concert, or perhaps the long-teased band documentary is ready for release.
The How You Remind Me stars had planned to tour this summer to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their 2005 album All The Right Reasons, with an anniversary deluxe edition of the album scheduled for release in October. Nickelback had previously said there was ‘no timeline’ for their 10th studio album following the release of Feed The Machine in 2017, which produced three singles – the title track, Song On Fire and Must Be Nice. While we’re bracing ourselves for whatever is coming on Friday, it’s unclear what the band are actually planning.
One person argued: ‘Nickelback has bops’, while another tweet read: ‘Reminder that you people only hate Nickelback because it’s trendy and that they make bangers.
While most people jumped on the ‘haven’t we suffered enough in 2020?’ joke, legit Nickelback fans were pretty happy about the teasers, and defended the stars against the abuse. Wait, so now Nickelback are dropping a song/ album? Jesus Christ 2020 calm down- When Nothing Works August 11, 2020
